myAccountingDegree.org: Marc, give us some background about yourself and your accounting program?
Marc E Beauvois: I am originally from Haiti and moved to the US at a very young age. I spent most of my younger years in Florida before moving to Boston for my undergrad. I received my BS in Accounting from Northeastern University and now am planning on obtaining my MBA from Northeastern as well.
I chose Accounting as my major because my father was also an accountant for a prestigious bank in Haiti. I have always had a plan to start my own business someday and accounting to me is key to maintaining your business’s finances.
myAccountingDegree.org: Why did you choose Northeastern’s accounting program?
Marc E Beauvois: I chose Northeastern for undergraduate because it is a very well known and respected university. The courses and faculties are among the best in the country. It is ranked as one of the best universities in the country. Its curriculum also offers the flexibility of taking the courses online or in class.
Attending Northeastern was a great decision for me. I landed a job immediately after graduation at one of the most prominent companies in the world – JP Morgan Chase – where I am currently employed.
myAccountingDegree.org: Did you work on any class projects that were particularly rewarding?
Marc E Beauvois: Aside from accounting I was very much into business management. I took many business classes that go hand-in-hand with accounting. One major project I worked on for my undergrad was my business plan for my company JME Records. It involved putting together a full plan, both business and financial, for the company. I had to work closely with my business professor and accounting professor to put together a well rounded plan.
For that particular project, a full marketing plan had to be put in place for a business start up. I had to demonstrate my ability to manage the business from a financial stand point, by reducing overhead costs during the first fiscal year of the opening of the business.
myAccountingDegree.org: What advice to you have for people who are in the process of choosing an accounting program?
Marc E Beauvois: I think students should look at the structure of the curriculum at the school they choose to attend for the accounting program and research as much as they can to make sure it is the type of accounting they want to focus on for a career. For me is was a little bit easier since my father was also an accountant so I had more guidance when it came time for me to choose the school and program focus. So research would be my best advice.
